About Us

EMP was started in 1972 by Doug Williams as a small custom machine shop serving the needs of a handful of local OEMs in the medical and electronics fields. Its first location was at 1996 South Navajo Street in Denver.  Though its scope and capabilities were limited at the time, Doug built EMP's early reputation on three basic principles: superior quality, value-based pricing, and exceptional customer service.

In 1983 Doug retired and sold the Company to Tom Goyne and Alden Armington. By 1985 EMP outgrew its old plant and moved to a larger  facility at 2001 South Navajo Street. Under Tom and Alden's leadership the company grew to an annual sales level of $1.2 million. By the end of the decade, there were 25 skilled machinists and office personnel employed at EMP, and the first CNC’s were in use.

Gene Jaeger purchased EMP from Tom and Alden in 1989. During the economic expansion of the 1990’s, the company grew to more than 100 employees and $10 million in annual sales, thanks in part to an expanded customer base in semiconductor, aerospace, and other high-tech industries. In 1995 the company moved to its present location on West Louisiana Avenue, and changed from a primarily manual shop to an almost exclusively CNC-based operation.

In 2000, The company was sold again, to then-Vice President David Morris and a group of private investors. In the past five years the company has expanded its capabilities to include a wide array of contract manufacturing services, including electrical assembly and box build, turn-key engineering, and various value added specialties. No longer just a local machine shop, EMP now ships a growing percentage of its products outside of the Rocky Mountain region, including to customers in Europe and Asia.

Today the legacy of Doug Williams and all of EMP’s founding fathers lives on. The company continues its  tradition of maintaining exceptional quality, value, and service in every component we make.  More than thirty years later, we’re especially proud that many of EMP’s earliest accounts are still doing business with us! For all of us at EMP, this is our most tangible measure of success…
